Nearly 20% of all Urgent Care visits are related to behavioral health concerns. Administrative staff typically does not have the bandwidth for additional tasks during a patient’s visit. HealthCare Express needed an effective and efficient process to screen patients for various behavioral health concerns and refer them to appropriate level of care if given consent by the patient.

By integrating with HealthCare Express’ EMR, SmarTest AI® solution automates the entire screening and referral process. The providers can view full assessment results in the patient’s progress note within the EMR. The clinics utilize the GAD-7, PHQ-9, DAST-10, and AUDIT-R assessments.
If a patient scores 12+ on the PHQ-9 and/or 10+ on the GAD-7
The provider is alerted via email
The patient is asked if they would like to be contacted by a behavioral health specialist. If the patient gives consent, the referral is sent to the designated behavioral health provider in real-time.

Some of the surrounding behavioral health clinic's weren't able to accommodate our patient's mental health needs. This was either because they didn't take the patient's insurance, or there was too long of a waitlist to be seen. Also, when patients would score high on a depression or anxiety screening, it's hard to capture every single patient that needed to be referred to a behavioral health partner solution.

MHT created Alerts associated with assessments where if a patient scored above a certain threshold, the referral clinic would have a care coordinator who would be alerted of the patient scoring high. They also connected us to a TelePsych partner that was able to accommodate our patient's mental health needs. Alert's were set up and patient's needs were taken care of in a timely fashion.

By integrating to the clinic’s EMR, SmarTest AI® has automated the behavioral health screening and referral process. They utilize the GAD-7, PHQ-9, ORT, & ODI assessments. Upon assessment completion, the provider reviews the results directly in the patient’s progress note within their EMR. If a patient indicates any level of suicidal ideation, SmarTest AI® redirects the patient to the 988 Suicide Hotline. Additionally, if the patient scores >9 on the PHQ-9 or GAD-7, they will be asked if they would like to be contacted by the clinic’s behavioral health partner.
