A Detailed Overview of the MHT Ecosystem

Mental Health Technologies (MHT) is a HIPAA-compliant, cloud-based platform used to test and screen patients for a variety of conditions.

These include:

  • Mental health disorders and suicidal ideations

  • Substance abuse

  • Pain management

Because our system is designed to connect patients to the correct outside specialist, the MHT assessment tool is manufactured with the family care physician in mind.

The MHT System of Process Can Be Summarized in Five Steps:

  1. Assessment(s) sent to the patient

    a. Sent one to two days prior to the appointment

  2. Test results captured

    a. Uploaded into physician EMR and MHT platform

  3. Treatment plans and automated referrals

    a. If a patient has a high test score, they will be asked for consent to be contacted directly by a specialist

  4. Submittal to insurance for payment

  5. Follow-up

1. Assessment(s) Sent to the Patient

Based on prior testing results (if applicable), new or updated appointments will trigger a testing logic for the patient and assessments are sent to them via email and/or text message one to two days prior to their appointment.

You may also choose to have your patient complete this in-office, prior to their appointment.

Additional details:

  • Wide range of assessments are available for various mental health conditions

  • Automated reminders to complete assessments can be sent to the patient

  • Assessments contain a variety of sliding scales and yes/no questions

2. Test Results Captured

Your patient’s test results are immediately captured and uploaded into your office’s EMR, as well as the MHT platform. All results will be permanently stored within MHT to preserve historical data.

Result information varies upon assessment type.

An example of what you will see inside a depression assessment is:

  • How your patient answered each individual question

  • A depression [number] score along with a category label

    • None

    • Mild

    • Moderate

    • Moderately severe

    • Severe

  • Functional impairment

  • Suicidal tendency

Additional details:

  • Your assessment queue shows all completed and non-completed screenings

  • You can choose to be alerted once specific—or all—assessments are completed

3. Treatment Plans and Automated Referrals

MHT provides the primary physician the ability to control automated referrals.

If your presets allow and the patient has consented to be contacted, you may choose that certain test scores result in an automated referral being sent to a behavioral health professional. Moreover, you could opt to make a manual decision on your own.

As your patient’s primary care provider, you may decide:

  • Your patient is in immediate danger and needs help at that moment

  • You are better off allowing your referral source to take over patient care

  • You are comfortable enough to prescribe the patient medication yourself

  • You would prefer a watch-and-wait approach before making any other decisions

Additional details:

  • We have a partnership with FCC, which allows for expedited referrals

  • Prompts exist for:

    • Alerting you to emergent situations (i.e., a patient indicated suicidal ideations)

    • Allowing you to refer a Medicaid patient to a specialist that takes their insurance

4. Submittal to Insurance for Payment

At MHT, we direct traffic for primary care providers and the insurance companies they are billing.

Additional details:

  • MHT documents and automates insurance claims

  • You will have several different, well-paying CPT codes covered by Medicaid, Medicare, and most commercials payers

5. Follow-up

For referred patients, monthly reports are provided to the primary care physician with ongoing test results.

Once a patient is referred to an outside specialist, it’s essential—as a primary—to remain in the know regarding any progress or regression they may be experiencing.

Additional details:

  • MHT has the capability to pull any subsequent test results from referral sources

From the initial screening through emergent alerts and billing, MHT provides an end-to-end solution for helping your practice address patients’ behavioral health concerns. To learn more and speak with one of our dedicated specialists, contact us.
